How it all started...
Empowerment Christian Church (ECC) was officially launched on April 4, 2010 with the blessing of our overseer, Bishop John M. Borders, III, pastor of the Morning Star Baptist Church. After serving faithfully under Bishop and First Lady Borders for more than 15 years in a number of different capacities, Pastors Egobudike and Melissa began making plans with Bishop Borders to birth ECC. With about 25 people in our number, we prayerfully stepped out on faith believing God to grant increase with the little we had in resources. We are a church without walls that operates out of several different sites. We are able to make this happen through our partnerships with other community-based organizations.
Focus
Our focus has always been to pour into ministry; not a mortgage—to build people; not an edifice. Pastor E always says, “We build tents, not temples. The building will come, but not at the cost of ministry to people.” In our first year of ministry there were certainly times when we struggled with meeting the needs of people and with meeting our financial expenses, BUT God always worked it out! Till this day, we are a debt free church owing no man except the debt to love. Never has our faith wavered and our directive been clearer! ECC was founded and continues to operate as a non-denominational, Bible-teaching, Bible-believing, Holy Spirit filled and led Church with a purpose to reach, raise and release!
Why Empowerment
You may ask why God gave us the name “Empowerment” Christian Church. Well, at first glance, it might seem a strange name for a church fellowship, but upon closer examination, we find the converse to be true. Empowerment is a theme found throughout the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.
In Acts 1:8, the Word of God tells us “…you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
The early church did not start or grow by its own power or enthusiasm, but the disciples were empowered by God’s Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit does what he does, there is movement, excitement and growth. He gives us the motivation, energy, and ability to get the gospel to the whole world!

Be Empowered
Empowerment signifies an endowment of power, so God empowers us through His Holy Spirit and Word to do His work and we, in turn, empower others for Kingdom living.
Empowerment Christian Church is a Christ-focused ministry with a Kingdom agenda driven by results, not rhetoric. ECC is a multi-racial, multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-generational Christian fellowship defined by discipleship. The long-term vision is to launch ministries throughout the New England region and the world.
Again, welcome to ECC and I look forward to seeing your face in the place (BIG Hug)!
